Practicum & Internship Program

As part of our efforts to give back to our community and make psychological services more accessible, we offer free or low-cost options through supervised graduate level psychology students at the clinic. This is in addition to the pro-bono work our registered clinicians sometimes offer.

As part of the process to enter the profession of psychology, graduate level students are required to complete a clinical site placement under the supervision of an experienced clinician prior to graduating their masters or doctorate level training program. Currently, our practicum and internship program receives administrative oversight from Natalie Holm, a registered psychologist and one of the partners at Grey Matter Psychology.

Our site supervisors who provide instruction and mentorship to practicum students are Natalie Holm and James Murch, both Registered Psychologists with the College of Alberta Psychologists.

Our practicum and internship program is specifically focused on providing services to community members who might not otherwise be able to access services. Our student clinicians offer services on a “pay what you can” model, with a suggested fee. We often offer services for free to community members who cannot afford to pay anything for services, or to individuals who have inconsistent incomes.

We welcome student applicants from several different universities. We prefer to work with students from the University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge, Yorkville University, and Athabasca University. Students from other programs in applied psychology (e.g., forensic, clinical/counselling, school/educational) are welcome to apply as well. Please send applications to info@greymatterpsychology.ca

At the present time, we do not accept candidates from Master of Social Work programs, and we rarely accept candidates who do not intend to register as psychologists in Alberta – exceptions to this are individuals who hold existing registration in a similar field (e.g., physicians who are completing a graduate degree in psychology, dieticians who are completing a graduate degree in psychology and intend to work with eating disorders).
